The Best and the Worst...

Every so often, I love to prank my husband. It has to be a rarity, and it HAS to be good.  So the other day after having a dream about getting with twins I decided to get him. I often times have dreams that 'tell the future' (don't knock it, ask my Mommy in law and her new baby boy!) and whenever I tell Bryce about one involving babies he gets scared to say the least. I let it rest for a couple days and then I spent a couple extra minutes in the bathroom... I had found a positive pregnancy test from Charlotte in a neglected cupboard in the bathroom and you know when you have that 'Aha' moment, where the light comes on? Had one.

So I try to look shocked and run out into the front room, tossing the test on my hubby's lap as I passed by. I then ran to the kitchen and waited to see his reaction. A moment passes and he's staring at it...

I'm starting to wonder if he's still breathing...

He looks up... Out the window for a second, then bounces off the couch.

'This is a joke, you're kidding me...' (he's not at all amused...)
I'm full of the giggles at this point but I shake my head...
'You've GOT to be kidding me.' (still not amused...)
I shake my head again...
'This had better be a freaking joke.'
'What's the issue?!'
'Nothing... but babies are freaking expensive.'
(All color has drained from his face at this point. Probably thinking about the $5000 deductible on our new insurance.)
'Well then...' I say, attempting to be serious.
'It's a good thing that i'm only kidding!!!!!!!'
*Pause*

See you soon...

I have been absent for quite some time, there has been alot of life thrown our way and some of it has been pretty difficult to deal with.

First,  I ended up with the respiratory flu... something that it took me over a month to get over. It's been a hard road to recovery, but i'm out running and lifting again and it feels so great! The girls are growing like weeds, leading me to believe that I need to freeze time at some point. Sarah has been chatting constantly about these huge amazing stories, and Char now knows every word involving food.

In the time we go through highschool, i've found that we make friends that make an impact on our lives no matter how small. And those who make a big impact, are the ones that leave us too soon. This girl was lovingly awarded the ability to find and devour new music and the appreciation of new sounds and singers, and many other amazing pieces of life's puzzle by a friend that I have lost touch with in the last couple years. He served our country overseas in the Army for a year, was an amazing cook, and left us too soon. We are left with the happy memories of a goofy guy that made everyone laugh and touched the lives of so many people. We were on the Lacrosse team together and I can't imagine how uneventful it would have been without his jokes and hard work. Late night phone calls giving me a hard time for the music he'd found on my mp3 player, and asking me if I ever did anything besides my homework. There are so many other things that I would love to say about this gifted man, but I can't put into words how Cliff was in person... He was unique and original...
He will always be loved, and missed by so many... This world lost a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend... See you on the other side, C.J.

My Monkey...

I'm sorry I have been so negligent in my blogging, but I promise that I have been a superb housewife in the meantime! I'm kidding.... Hahaha. I've actually been very very sick with some chest congestion thing that resulted in insane sinus headaches and too many glasses of tea on the couch! Very happy that I am better and my first day totally back 100% at the Mommy, Wifey thing has been exceptionally wonderful. My house is all sparkly and my laundry is (mostly) caught up, I made brownies and dinner is only 1/2 an hour late.

My darling daughters have been more of a help today than they have since I got sick (who knew?), and today really has been a great day with my Monkey.

Her vocabulary has exploded and it's so much fun to hear her running through the house telling a story at the pace of a F-16 at the decibil of a jet engine. I completed Char's drawer today and while I was in there halfway depressed at the amount of clothes i'm packing away Sarah started to sing. As she finished Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I was left wondering when did she learn every single word in that song... About a half an hour later I was running through the house dodging various sharp and pointy toys when I realized that Sarah had been in the bathroom a little too long. I took a deep breath and walked in... Her hands were wet. My mummzy was on the phone with me and asked me if she'd gotten into something in the shower, I was pretty sure I knew exactly where her hands had been but I asked anyway..
'Sarah, did you get into the shower?'
'No'
'Sarah, were your hands in the potty?!'
No, Mama...'
(My mother is laughing hysterically at this point...)
I glanced at the sink and noticed that.... there wasn't any water in the sink.
'Sarah, were your hands in the potty?!'
'NO, Mama...'
(My mother is still laughing...)
'Where were your hands?'
'In the TOILET, Mama.'
Yep... I knew it. I decided that I need more yoga in my life.

We washed hands and arms, then we moved on with my day... My mom proceeded to tell me that I made hers. I find it almost mean that she laughs at my crazy parenting moments... But after the terrors i'm sure I gave her when I was three i'm sure I had it coming.

Then a little later (right around the time I realized that I was a half hour late in putting the roast in the oven), I was getting a little uptight. I get insanely 'passionate' about my cooking and was frustrated that I had been playing Free Cell instead of fixing dinner. Right around the time I was cleaning the only 9x13 I own, the chips of dried brownie were flying around the kitchen and I hear giggles. I turn around to see Sarah's cheery face laughing...
'Mama, that's so FUNNY!!'
(Me, beet red, puffy faced, tight lipped...) 'No, Sarah, it's really not...'
'But Mama... It IS Funny! See?'
I stopped to look around and see that she had been standing in a brownie shower and that me chopping at this pyrex pan and flinging crumbs everywhere was in fact, very funny. Those reality checks are what makes my life go round....

No matter how grown up you get... You can't ever take life too seriously...

You miss the fun stuff!

Antartic Explorers, Pecan Butter, and Food Network...

Happy Thursday! After a long week of Projects I am back, finally sitting with coffee.

We have had another Winter storm here in Montana, leaving us with frigid temperatures and a new blanket of snow. These snowy days don't leave much outside to do, so we have antartic adventures in the house...

In cooking adventures:

I pinned a pin on Pinterest that gave you a birds eye view on how to make peanut butter... Having been given THREE POUNDS of yummy pecans over Christmas, I decided to give it a whirl...
I gaurantee that it's alot yummier than it looks! I added some honey and a pinch of brown sugar and I can't keep my husband out of it! I urge you to try it!!

Alrighty... I'm going to go on a small rant... I used to LOVE watching cooking shows. You got a birds eye view of a professional chef's techniques and unique style. As we speak, I have Food Network on and am watching a show where it seems like the host is a cross between Bill Nye the Science guy and The Kratt Brothers. Needless to say, i'm learning nothing and I miss the days of Emeril, or PLEASE SOMEONE bring back Julia Child! After having finished Bringing up Bebe, I truly feel like there is no dish off limits for me or my children. When bringing children into the culinary experience, there is no limit to creativity or experimentation. Just involving Sarah in the cooking of a dish, has brought a new sense of awareness to what she eats. We had a mustard and and herb crusted lamb leg (courtesy of The Art of French Cooking)with lemon dill rice the other night and to my amazement, my girls polished off their plates and asked for more. A month ago, Sarah would have pushed away her plate declaring her need for chicken nuggets or french fries. Now she is begging me to help cook, asking and giving her ideas on what to cook for dinner, and giving me a very colorful description of how each dish tastes. I still can not believe the changes in these girls.

Well I have finished my coffee, I will now go opt for some chamomile tea and hit the laundry.
Ugh...

Binkies Aren't Flushable....

Well maybe they are...

I can't remember if I blogged about the worst shower imaginable so here's a quick refresher!

Me: In the shower trying to take 10 minutes to at least wipe off the sweat, puppy fur, slobber, milk, and breakfast off of me when my girls came in to say hi.
Hi.
I all of a sudden hear Sarah scream, I peek out, Char dropped her binky in the toilet (that Sarah had just used) tried to fish it out and Sarah flushed the toilet.

I cried.

Now today, with that disaster safely two months behind me, I have to admit I was really starting to think today was an easy day. It's Thursday, we're on the downhill slope of the week, I got a shower (without flushing binkies) and I actually got make up on. Yippeeeeee, my definition of a great day.

Then it happened again.
Sarah went to go to the potty, shut the door behind her. Opened the door, came out. Was told for the HUNDRETH time to please pull her pants up. Walks down the hall. Never shut the door.
My bug has always been an inquisitive little creature so when I saw her little pink and purple penguined self (She's wearing the most adorable outfit today) making a break for the bathroom I could only think the worst. I jumped up from the couch and raced for the bathroom. On my way... anyone ever seen those plastic animals in the feed stores? The real life likes ones... like the Texas Longhorns that have REALLY LONG horns? Yep. Foot and longhorn made contact -enter under breath explicitive here- but I kept going. Just in time to see Char.... drop her binky in the toilet. That Sarah never flushed. AGAIN.  The worst part is my sweet darling is still rosy cheeked from her nap and smiling with her beautiful little nose all scrunched up into an almost sinister grin. Deep breath, remove baby from bathroom, grab kitchen tongs, fish binky out, deposit tongs and binky into a large pot of boiling water.

Remember that you never shut the bathroom door............................................

Transitions...

I have to say, I am not very fond of the transition of being sick to being healthy. It always seems like it's harder than being sick. Monkey woke up at 4am. Yes, A.M. After not going to sleep until 9pm. So on top of the already difficult 'transition' there also has been absolutely no sleep in this house again. A conversation with Sarah this morning

Good Morning Sarah!
No.
What?
No.
What's wrong? Do you need something?
No.
Are you hungry?
No.
Would you like a side of 'Happy' with that?!
Noooooo Mama... I don't want any happy.

** crickets **

Mama....
Yes....
I'm hungry.

At this point i'm really trying to keep it cool.  Lack of sleep usually makes me a less than desirable person to be around. On the bright side, being overly irritable makes me overly sensitive to the state of my house so when Bryce comes home it's usually spotless.  I've already started two loads of laundry scrubbed my kitchen, and handwashed both the mud room and kitchen floors. I'm starting to think that he's not believing me when I say i'm exhausted, it's usually when i'm at my most productive. Who knew.

Motherhood= Exhaustion= Super clean house.

The things they don't tell you in the nine months before you have your wonderful, non-sleeping, bundle of joy.
Trying to stay uber positive today!

Did anyone watch 'The Taste' last night? I thought it was really good and i'm super excited to see how the show progresses. Some of the things they made though................... Chicken fried watermelon... I know 'don't knock it until you try it' but I just have a hard time wrapping my head around hot watermelon. Hot Watermelon... yep, still can't figure it out. On the fun side the lady with the simplest spoonfull seemed to get the highest marks! Just simple with some mashed potatoes. Goes to show that a down home cook has the makings of a chef. Definately going to try to make something fun for dinner tonight!  Happy Wednesday everybody!

It's In The Air...

I think we might be in the clear. My darling Monkey went down for a nap early this afternoon, woke up cranky, took a shower and screamed, asked for some buttered noodles, and is now munching on them while humming 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. The Healthy vibe is very gently being tossed around the house. Thank goodness, because this mama has a headache that could potentially cause brain impairment in an elephant.

Time for some Zumba, lemon water, and two gel capsuled advil.
